Simple CVs are called “simple” for a reason: their structure hasn’t changed much in the last ten years. But… classic doesn’t mean old school.

Classic resumes no longer need to include your fax or home number, and some other things have become superfluous. Review this list carefully if this is your first time creating a basic resume:

  1. Your name and contact information will still appear at the top. But since nothing else happens in the mail, download the physical address. Choose your phone number and email address.
  2. The traditional plain resume may have career goals listed at the top. Instead, modern professional resumes are used: resumes that succinctly highlight your skills and talents.
  3. The history of the work is always chronological, as in the old days. Start with the last or current position and work backwards.
  4. Years ago, the classic CV was enough to simply list the duties and responsibilities of the job. Instead, this is a listing of accomplishments and results achieved. Talk about your achievements in each position you hold.
  5. Forget about fonts, colors, etc. unique. You are creating a traditional document with traditional formatting.
  6. Also ask YOU that this basic CV should not exceed two pages.
  7. The tense of the verb must be constant. Use the past tense for previous jobs and the present tense for your job summary and current position.
  8. Using keywords is important. Since many digital users use scanning, it is important to include the keywords found in the job posting. But don’t forget that there are other powerful words you can use to get attention.
